To fit a sewing machine into a table cutout or hydraulic cabinet, you need three distinct measurements: Bed Footprint (base resting on platform), Maximum Body Clearance (including handwheel and power cord plugs), and Lowered Storage Height (with spool pins folded).
Step-by-Step: Measuring the Machine Body
1Body Width (Left Tip to Rightmost Protrusion)
Measure from the leftmost edge of the sewing bed to the outer edge of the handwheel on the right. Critical check: Plug in your power cord and foot pedal jack. Right-angle plugs add 1.0 inch; straight plugs add up to 2.25 inches to total width!
2Body Depth (Front Bed Edge to Rear Motor Hump)
Measure from the front ruler edge of the machine bed back to the rear motor casing or hinge pins. Computerized machines with integrated motors often belly outward at the back, requiring a deeper table opening (11″ to 12.5″).
3Lowered Height (For Sewing Cabinets with Drop Lids)
Measure from the rubber base feet to the highest point with the carry handle folded flat and spool pins retracted. If your machine has a vertical fixed spool mast, ensure the cabinet platform has at least 14.5″ downward drop travel so the cabinet top closes flush.
